Messier 22: 10,000 Light Years
By the time light from the Globular cluster M22 in Sagittarius reaches your eyes, it's 10,000 years old. And that means it started out on its long journey during the Neolithic, at the end of the last ice age. The Great Lakes didn't exist yet. Glaciers were retreating from New England, the bow & arrow was being invented, and the Mammoth & the Mastodon were quietly going extinct. We may have eaten them all. Farming wasn't big yet; the only domesticated animal was the dog.
